Finding my way back to making kick ass art just because I want to

It was shortly before I drew this picture that I was sitting in my home office doing some client work. My daughter arrived home from school and came to my office to do homework. As she finished up, she started to draw and talk about art class in school. It was during this session that she asked me to show her how to be a better artist. As I started to help her, it scratched an itch, one that hadn't been scratched in a long time.
Later that night I pulled out a sketchbook I had bought a week or so before and began sketching the image you see here. In a way, I think it was the perfect one to start with. A weathered cape buffalo, a little scarred and beat up but still going strong. A little bird sits atop. To me, it represents me in a way, a somewhat hardened designer, with my daughter being that little bird bringing new light to the scene by just being her.
This drawing started the ball rolling again. I had such a good time drawing just for me. No client brief, no deadlines, just me doing what I want. That's a kind of freedom that makes the creative self scream like William Wallace.
This blog is a place I'll share my thoughts, upcoming events, what I'm working on, and other happenings. There's a lot I want to do, but in good time, so be sure to come back to stay updated!
